Story
The Legend of Zelda: Breath if the Wild’s story is set 100 years after the reawakening of Calamity Ganon. Calamity Ganon is the main boss of the entire game in which players can fight him right after the tutorial or until they completed everything else in the game that they can do.
The beginning of Breath of the Wild is very reminiscent of the very first Legend of Zelda game with Link coming out of a cave into a vast world; just more 3D than previously. Once Link has finished the Great Plateau region, the tutorial region, The Old Man that Link has encountered will tell the tale of what happened 10000 years ago.
The tale that the Old Man tells Link is that Calamity Ganon rises every so often and every time Ganon rises, the embodiment of the Goddess and a hero wielding the Sword that Seals the Darkness will also awaken to be there to seal Ganon away once again. The ancient race of the Sheikah's knew of this and decided to take action to help the hero in his battle to re-seal Ganon away.
To do this the Sheikah's built four Divine Beasts to weaken Ganon along with hundreds of Guardians. The Guardians role in the battle was to protect the embodiment of the Goddess and the hero while they fight Ganon. However, things did not go according to plan when Calamity Ganon awoke and instead Ganon seized control over all the Guardians and sent four different blight versions of himself to each of the four villages to gain control of the Divine Beast.
Each village had their own champion that will control the Divine Beast when the time came for them to take action. The villages are as follows: Zora's Domain with Divine Beast Vah Ruta an Elephant, Goron City with Divine Beast Vah Rudania a Lizard, Gerudo Town with Divine Beast Vah Naboris a Camel, and Rito Village with Divine Beast Vah Medoh an Eagle.
Each village has their own type of element that is associated with them and the Blight Ganon's each take a form or trait of that element. The Ganon's are as follows: Waterblight Ganon which has control over Vah Ruta, Fireblight Ganon which has control over Vah Rudania, Stormblight Ganon which has control over Vah Naboris, and Windblight Ganon which has control over Vah Medoh.
That is the basic premises of Breath of the Wild without spoiling most things that are not given away as soon as completing the Great Plateau or by letting you figure out what exactly happened to Link 100 years ago by doing all the memories.
