Memories and Armor
Enemies get progressively harder as you progress through the game in Breath of the Wild. Silver being the max in normal mode and gold in master mode. This means that enemies get harder to kill and deal more damage to kill you. This can be countered by getting more hearts from completing shrines, but there is another way to take more damage. This is from armor. Armor can be collected from shrines, chests, quests, or can be brought from certain shop NPCs.
Armor give defenses which decreases the damage of the weapon hitting you. Each piece of armor may give an attribute like swim speed up or climb speed up. Armors can also be upgraded at a Great Fairy Fountain. Upgraded armor gives more defense along at level two, some sets can give a set bonus if the other set pieces are at level two. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in the world that the player can find.
Great Fairy Fountains are unlocked by spending Rupees. Each time one is unlocked the price is increased. The unlocking price starts at 100, increases to 500, then 1000, and finally 10,000 Rupees. Each Great Fairy Fountain allows the armor to be upgraded by one so the final total can be level 4. The most armor someone can get is from armor that has 4 defense at level 0, not upgraded, with the Champions Tunic that has 5 defense at level 0.
The Champions Tunic is the most defense a player can get for a single piece of armor and is used to get the most defense in the game. The Champions Tunic is gotten from collecting one of the twelve memories. Memories are found in the world after talking to Impa after getting your Shikeah Slate fixed. Memories give no other reward, but the first memory you collect and after talking back to Impa will give you the Champions Tunic. In addition to 5 defense points that the Champions Tunic gives, it will also show enemy health bar and hit points, this is useful for seeing enemies behind walls.
Using armor is very useful for exploration due to the fact that they can give resistances to temperature. A helpful tip for going across snow and sand quickly is to get the sand boots and snow boots, equipping them and using the chest and hat for the environment instead of using the entire set.
