The Great Plateau

The Great Plateau is the area that the player first starts in, or better known as the tutorial area. The entire region of the Great Plateau is the tutorial and it is almost impossible to skip unless the player has done the task required to get off of it. The task required to pass the Great Plateau is by doing 4 different shrines or mini dungeons. These shrines are scattered across the Great Plateau so that the player gets a very good understanding of most of the game mechanics.

Each shrine adds runes to your Sheikah Slate. The Sheikah Slate is a device that Link, or the player, uses to access the mini-map, inventory, or see what quests they still have to do; it is also required to open shrines, but Link can't possibly lose the Sheikah Slate. These runes give Link "special abilities". These abilities include Magnesis, Remote Bombs, Stasis, and Cryosis. Later on, another rune can be added which is the camera and is required if you want to 100% the game.


Magnesis is generally the first rune that most players get due to the fact that the shrine required to receive the rune is near Link when he needs to do the shrines. Magnesis allows Link to control metal objects and be able to move them around. Using Magnesis, the player can also damage mobs by ramming the controlled object into the enemy allowing easy removal of said enemy.

Remote Bombs is usually the second rune that most players get due to it not being on a mountain top. Remote Bombs is what it sounds like, remote bombs that Link can throw or place and detonate it later when the player chooses to. Remote Bombs gives two runes; both are bombs, but the shape is different. One is more rectangular shaped while the other is circular shape; so no matter what terrain your on there is a bomb that can be used.

Stasis and Cryosis shrines are both located on top of a mountain; one near a cliff, the other near a frozen lake. Stasis allows the player to freeze an object in time, and can later be upgrade to freeze enemies in time, for a short while. This allows the player to hit the frozen object, if needed, to be able to more it, if it was to heavy to move otherwise. Cryosis allows the player to freeze water and also allow any ice made by Cryosis to be destroyed.
